A Pledge to Seek Reform

I am often asked “why are you running?” The reason quite simply is I'm frustrated by a legislature that fails to do its job. A new generation of leaders must step forward to solve this crisis. I'm optimistic that we as a community can chart a new course. Next year we will have a new governor and it gives us a prime opportunity to push for institutional reform.
I'm closely watching two movements seeking to bring reform they are California Forward and Repair California.
California Forward http://www.caforward.org/ is pursuing a range of complementary reforms that together can produce better governance, across the board. One example of reform they seek is to produce a fair and reliable revenue system and a budget process that links spending decisions to results and creates accountability for outcomes.
Repair California http://www.repaircalifornia.org/ is a broad-based coalition dedicated to reform by calling for a California Constitutional Convention that would look at making structural reforms. An example of reforms they seek is, Elections, including the initiative and referenda processes, campaign finance, and term limits.
Both of these movements are signs that institutional reform is needed to change the course. I pledge to be your representative who will work hard to bring reform to our state government. There are many issues that our state will have to address, but none of them can be resolved unless we resolve how we govern.

Support from my colleagues on the Board of Education
Serving on the Board of Education for the Gilroy Unified School District has been a rewarding experience because of the progress we have made working together. Our success is due to the commitment that each one of us brings to achieving academic excellence for all students. Our success can be seen in the following accomplishments:
- Gilroy High School honored as a California Distinguished School.
- Eliot School earned the highest academic gain of any school in Santa Clara County in 2007-2008.
- The opening of Christopher High School -- a new comprehensive school this Fall.
In addition, the Team also includes Dr. Deborah Flores, Superintendent of GUSD, the District Office staff (certificated as well as classified), the site administrators, all of the classified employees who work behind the scenes but are so important to our daily lives, and most importantly our Teachers. Thus, I would say OUR TEAM is GUSD as a whole. Our success is a shared success.
There are many challenges we will face in the coming year. In particular, the challenges all school districts in California face in light of the current economic crisis. But I do believe our Team will work diligently to continue to pursue academic excellence. .
For this reason it gives me great pleasure to know I have my colleagues' support in my endeavor to become the next Assemblymember to represent the 28th Assembly District. My approach to governance really is about finding solutions to everyday challenges, something I've brought to my everyday work on behalf of students in our community.
Sincerely,
Francisco
